is the case in many schools, special events
are often a highlight of the year. Perhaps because
we are a small school or maybe as a result of
the strong ties between the school and the community,
these events are often accompanied by an extra
element of involvement and enthusiasm.
Children’s
Day

Día
de Los Niños or Children’s
Day, similar to Mother’s or
Father’s Day, is a day set
aside in Costa Rica to honor children. Instead of a day of classes students get the opportunity to enjoy activities such as face painting, relay races, theater games, and treats. | |

Independence
Day

Children
participate in a traditional Costa
Rican dance. | |

September
15th is Costa
Rican Independence Day. School closes and students participate in a parade in the nearby towns of Cerro Plano and Santa Elena. Children,
dress in attire that represents Costa Rican traditions and values held by the school and Quaker community. | |

element in the local celebration. | |
Sports Day

Community
wide participation and fantastic
weather all contribute to make
Sports Day a huge success! The funds
raised are set aside for the physical education and arts programs. | |

Christmas
Fair

Community
members sell handicrafts from their
country of origin, Ecuador. | |

The Christmas
Fair is yet another important fund
raising event for the school. Local
artists support the Christmas craft
bazaar by offering a percentage
of their sales to the school and
in turn gain community wide exposure
and support. | |
