  • Poetry Festival and Day of the Dead

    From October 26th to November 3rd, Costa Rica celebrated the XIII International Poetry Festival and our school community joining it by hosting one of the visiting poet.  Mr. Tarek Eltayeb, from Egypt, visited Monteverde and shared with our students, teachers, parents, and community members his poetry. This was combined with the cultural and colorful celebration of the “Día de los Muertos”, which was prepared by our students with strong support from Spanish and Social Studies program.

  • MFS Robotic Camp – 2014

    The Monteverde Friends School had its first day of a week long robotics camp and over 25 students attended.  During the first day the students learned to navigate the NXT programming environment on their laptops, build and program Mindstorm robots, and use sensors to navigate simple mazes and puzzles. Some students also programmed their robots to kick a small ball while other designed theirs to grab and maneuver several larger objects around the room.
    The week long camp is being run by Hannah and Rachael Tipperman twin 17 year old sisters from Philadelphia who developed Robot Springboard as an organization to help develop robotics programs in different communities.

  • MFS Walkathon 2014

    Caminata 2014The Walkers

    On Saturday, March 29th, students, families, staff and friends of the Monteverde Friends School
    (MFS) walked to raise money to support the programs offered at MFS.  The funds raised by the Caminata support important programs at the school, like arts, drama and physical education.

    Our annual Walkathon – organized by volunteer parents – is one of the most challenging and exciting ways
    to support the school.  This year participants left form school at 12:00 pm and walked up and down steep trails
    through the cloud forest in the Curi Cancha and Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserves.  We were very rewarded with the amazing view of the Continental Divide and by the fun – shared food after the walk.
